After School Program
Daily after-school program for 6th–12th grades, Monday–Friday from 2:30– 5:30 p.m. Open Gym / Youth Room – The youth room and gym are really hopping when the youth arrive. Video games and basketball as well as many other activities are available. Mentoring – Youth are paired up with mentors who help them develop their hopes and dreams. Tutoring – Volunteers provide tutoring and homework help to Youth on a daily basis. Field Trips are planned throughout the year to have fun, build community and expose our youth to new places and experiences. Educational breakout sessions are planned to give our youth opportunities to participate in visual and performing arts as well as to learn life skills. We always have pick-up games of different sports going on around the center. We also are involved in some organized basketball leagues.
We encourage our youth to participate in the middle and high school basketball league.
Each summer we take a group of youth for a Camping experience. There is just something about time set apart from business as usual to allow for some great things to happen. This special time serves as an introduction to a life-changing encounter with God for some and an opportunity to grow in their established relationships with Him for others. This time continues to be a wonderful way to have a powerful impact on the Middle and High School students at PPC.
The Christmas Store is set up by the staff with donations of items that children can select for their parents/guardians for Christmas. Each year, the youth have a Christmas party, where they have a meal, play games, and receive presents (shoes, coat or sweatshirts, etc.).
In partnership with Dare to Care, PPC provides a hot supper Monday through Fridays from 4:30-6:30 to all children toddler to 18 years of age in the community.
The organization LUCA was created with a partnership between PPC, Neighborhood House, and Nativity to combine efforts in exposing college bound youth to various campuses. We are currently trying to revamp this program to include exposure to all post – secondary opportunities.
The Portland Promise Center provides scholarships to applicants yearly. Deadline to submit an application is July 1, of each year.
