Community Development We understand transformative change will only occur naturally from the ground up; therefore, we seek to come alongside our fellow neighbors to bolster their efforts and echo their concerns. We pursue our community development initiatives with passionate patience, diligently working with our neighbors to see our shared dreams fulfilled in due time.

In keeping with these values, the Portland Promise Center is creating a network of community development partners to facilitate the socio-economic revitalization of our neighborhood.

Community-minded individuals and organizations with skills or services related to employment training and placement, home ownership counseling, affordable housing development, entrepreneurial mentoring and technical assistance or financial counseling are encouraged to join the Promise Partners Network.

Louisville Asset Building Coalition (VITA) New Directions Housing Corporation (Repair Affair) + Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program assists low-income people in filing their taxes at no charge with the assistance of trained volunteers. The program provides an enormous service to our community by helping our neighbors avoid predatory tax preparation services and allowing those who file to capitalize on benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit. The VITA program is a collaboration between the Portland Promise Center and the Louisville Asset Building Coalition.
Over $5 million dollars in tax returns has come back to the community during the time this program has been in existence at the Portland Promise Center. Given its success, our VITA program is being used as a national model.
