The Learning Center develops leaders from and for the community by providing year-round educational opportunities for children and their families.

Our Vision for the Learning Center:

  • The Learning Center will develop and reinforce the culture of education in our neighborhood. To initiate systemic change, we must raise up a cadre of servant leaders who will stay in the neighborhood and use their talents and resources to address the Portland neighborhood’s gaping educational needs.
  • The Portland Promise Center will advocate for improving our public schools and for more educational alternatives and opportunities for our children and youth.
  • We will increase the amount of funds available in our college scholarship endowments, so more students can experience higher education.

+ Children

Children’s After School Program

  • After School programming for grades K–5, Monday–Friday from 4:00– 6:00 p.m. Homework completion, snack, gym and Bible teachings are components of our weekly classes.
  • Tutoring is available for all of our children. Students are matched with volunteer tutors to strengthen weak areas and assist with special projects. We are a certified Every 1 Reads site.
  • Chapel is a weekly teaching time that allows us to examine scripture and how it applies to our lives. Children learn songs and participate in activities that help them to grow in their relationship with Christ.
  • Field Trips are frequently scheduled to explore our surrounding world and to encourage our young students to embrace the diversity of the city.
  • Breakouts are offered periodically throughout the year to expose our students to topics such as art, craft-making, music, cooking, gardening and a variety of other activities. We look for talent and put it to use in classes that expand student horizons.

Youth Summer Camp

Each summer we take a group of youth to a weeklong Christian Camp experience. There is just something about a week set apart from business as usual to allow for some great things to happen. This special time serves as an introduction to a life-changing encounter with God for some and an opportunity to grow in their established relationships with Him for others. Camp continues to be a wonderful way to have a powerful impact on the Middle and High School students at PPC!

Youth Community

A large part of what we do at PPC involves ministry to youth. We have a unique opportunity to see many of our kids everyday through afterschool program, weekly worship and weekend activities. Being so involved in their lives provides a lot of opportunities for faith experiences. It is through Youth Community, however that we are most intentional about our kids walk with Christ.

At Youth Community we live together and learn together. We pray together and serve together. We go on mission trips around the world and in our own neighborhood. Everything we do is intended to draw us closer to Christ and to care for others.
