Community Programs

Back to School Supplies
This program takes donations given by our supporters and assures that all children/youth have the basic needs to begin a school year successfully.  We attempt to hit the highlights of the schools’ supply lists along with uniform and clothing needs.

Block Parties
At least once a year, PPC sponsors a Block Party held on the grounds as a community socialization and information time.  Free food booths, games, face painting and information booths are set up along with a DJ.  A fun time for all!

Breakfast With Santa
PPC staff and volunteers provide a Saturday where community families can make reservations to come to the center and have a free pancakes and sausage breakfast, get a picture with Santa and leave with some treats.

Parents Christmas Store
A store set up by the staff with donated new items that parents can select and purchase for a nominal amount as Christmas gifts for the children in their home.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the PPC staff along with volunteers, set-up, cook and serve a free Thanksgiving Dinner for the community. All are welcomed!!  We usually serve at least 350 people.

Easter Egg Hunt
PPC staff and volunteers organize an Easter Egg hunt on center grounds for the Portland Community.  Families make reservations to attend.  Snacks are provided along with pictures with the Easter Bunny.  Groups of children attend to hear the Easter story and participate in the egg hunt.

Health Clinic
Touched Twice Health Clinic, through the UMC Good Samaritan Grant and volunteers of various professionals, is a health clinic that involves Doctors, Nurses, Heath Screening mobile units, hair stylists, dietitians, and other health related specialist. Community members sign in and are partnered with a volunteer who will accompany them and walk them through the process of various needed health screenings.

Trunk Or Treat
An evening where volunteers bring a vehicle to the PPC grounds, decorate it to a “Book Theme”, and bring bags of candy to participate in a trunk or treat for the community. Free food booths are set up and the children, upon sign-in, receive a card that gets stamped at each vehicle.  They turn the card in at the end to receive a free book!
