Our Director
Wanda Jaggers is the Early Child Education Director at the Portland Promise Center.
Wanda is an experienced educator, with over eight years of classroom teaching experience before taking the role of director of our Early Education Program. She holds a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Murray State University and a Master’s in Literacy from the University of Louisville. Wanda also has an active teaching license from the state of Kentucky. Wanda grew up in the Portland community and believes young students in the West End deserve to experience the very best early experiences and environment to learn and grow in.

Dear Portland Promise Early Childhood Families,
We are honored that you are considering becoming a part of the Portland Promise Early Childhood family. Our goal is to impact our students’ lives educationally, emotionally, and socially so they are given a strong foundation for their educational careers. We look forward to working as a team with your family to help your child reach exciting developmental milestones and goals!
The 2022-2023 school year marks our 1st year as an early childhood education center and over 4 decades for the center serving the Portland community. We are excited to begin this adventure with you! Our nurturing environment opens the door to each child's imagination, curiosities, and love of learning. Our program engages the whole child with developmentally appropriate materials. Our hands-on and engaging curriculum gives children ownership of their learning with guidance and support.
Our curriculum identifies specific goals in the following areas of development: Socially by feeling comfortable in school, trusting their new environment, making friends, and feeling that they are part of a group; Emotionally by helping them to experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control; Academically by helping them become confident learners, to acquire learning skills such as problem-solving, ask questions, and to use words to describe their ideas and feelings; and Physically by helping them increase their fine/gross motor skills.
We hope that we can exceed all of your expectations and want to take this time to welcome your family once again to the Portland Promise Center Early Childhood Program.
